Wow! I can't believe that September is almost over, it has gone by so quickly. Only one month in and we have created some amazing art together. Pre-K painted with marbles and created circular abstract art. The grade one class started part one of a two week project, at the end of next week, they will have created maps of a mythical land. Grade two finished a two week project and have learned about geometric and organic shapes.
I had the pleasure of seeing the House logo designs, great job done by all! We are now working on a funky colour wheel and will be discussing the three different kinds of colour schemes. The clay is taking a long time to dry, I hope to get the cartouches varnished next week. We have had fun in the activity room for a few week, soon it will be back to the classroom for some art history....don't worry, we'll still have fun with it!
Have a great week! See you on Wednesday!

Wednesday Sept. 10
I enjoyed meeting my Pre-K students today and had fun creating art with the shapes and colours they are learning with Mrs. Padovan.
In JK/SK we made a classroom quilt. Each student drew a picture of themselves and one favourite thing on their square. It was wonderful to get to know a little bit about each child today. I will be putting the quilt together and it will be displayed in the classroom.
The grade one's were full of sunshine today as we made suncatchers. Last week the students learned about primary and secondary colours and made their own colour wheel. The suncatchers were made using primary coloured tissue paper that overlapped. When the children held them up to the sun, they were able to see the secondary colours they had created. The students loved this "magic".
The grade two class got lost in the jungle today as we painted like Rousseau. Using leaves to create patterns, lush green jungles appeared.
The Upper School will have a gallery of House logos to show next week. I am really excited about seeing the finished product of all the hard work that has gone into thier creations. One logo will be selected from each House to be the official House logo.

Sketch Book Required for Upper School Art
A sketch book will be needed for art class for the Upper School students. This is the book where ideas will be born and grow. It can be any type of sketch book, wire bound, hard cover....
Please keep the size from 8 1/2 x 11 to 11x17. If they are too big, they will be difficult to manage.
We will start using the sketch book next Wednesday for our logo design project, and it will be used throughout the year. It is a good idea to keep the sketch book when it is filled, it is wonderful to look back at them later in life.
